Thanks for your note, Sofia. I agree with you that the green market is changing as sustainability becomes more of a common practice. That's a good thing, but much less of a differentiator that it use'd to be.

Great article!

I too must confess have been guilty of charge of the "know-it-all” marketing syndrome in the past. I believe the key is to keep listening to your customers and keep a sharp eye on any kind of feedback that might come through social media.

To answer the question posed in your title ("Are You a Green Marketing Weirdo Trying to Change the Behavior of Normal People?"), my opinion is that the green fad is slowly dying away and now only the companies that actually believe on their stuff - and focus on the benefits of the products they're selling, not just on the green value - will be able to survive.

Unfortunately, I think the ‘green thing’ and sustainability have been tainted with the fallacy of anthropogenic global warming.

For those marketers who have moved all-in on Green/Sustainability, I think they need figure out a way to move away from those weirdo’s/kook’s and try to re-focus the benefit into something along the lines of environmental responsibility, rather than changing the weather, lowering sea-levels, lining pockets with carbon taxes, etc..
