This week, I am honored to be featured on A Storied Career. In her communications blog, Dr. Kathy Hansen explores the traditional and post modern forms and uses of storytelling.
She sent me several questions about the use of story in green marketing, sustainability, and all endeavors where behavior change is the decided goal. Each day this week, she will share a portion of our Q&A.
Today, I describe what “Sustainable Storytelling” is all about, and provide one of my favorite examples.
Somehow I caught her attention several months back when I was chronicling my exposure to writer Donald Miller, his books starting with A Million Miles and a Thousand years, and his remarkable Storyline Conference in Portland, OR.
What does sustainable storytelling mean to you, and how do you use it to prompt people into action?

Like this story. All of this got my thinking lately: what the f**k is storytelling? Sorry for the F word. I guess I just needed an extra word with storytelling to make my message stick. Or not?
“Storytelling” seems to be all over the place lately. Although it is getting a fair amount of positive attention (thank got!) storytelling is also becoming some sort of umbrella word for everything and nothing.
I have written a blog article about it: http://rafstevens.net/what-the-fk-is-storytelling
Like to hear your thoughts. Thanks
