Wow!
We really think alike! I recently posted a series on my blog entitled all you really need to know about social media you learned in kindergarten as well... I focused on.some specific stuff (be creative and try new things, play nice) but on the same wavelength. Very cool.

I like what you are doing and what you have to say. Good stuff!

Thanks Carla. As you know better than I, this social media stuff is an interesting way to communicate. Fast adoption be us marketers, even as we're still deciphering the rules of the road. I love telling stories, and that's what makes social media so comfortable for me. I hope 2010 holds great things for you and Green and Chic.

That's GREEN & CHIC, everbody! http://www.greenandchic.com/

This really stood out: "I’m leaving the “How to’s,” and “The 10 Reasons Why,” and the “Lists” and the abbreviated text to the engineers and the PowerPointers. That’s all low resolution storytelling, and it’s no longer for me."

I think you're absolutely right. I have done a little of both over the past several years I've been blogging (almost two years with Green and Chic) and stories do indeed "sell". Thank you for that reminder!

I think your new focus on what does not work, is a bold move. I make a good portion of my income from social media consulting, so I am constantly on the search for what works to spread digital campaigns far and wide. And there is no shortage of advice across the web. What people don’t often talk about, and what I think is most compelling, is failure. I often tell clients that the only way I know the things I do, is by making lots of mistakes. I can’t tell you the numbers of times I’ve come up with a half-cocked idea and spent numerous hours perfecting that thing, just to watch it fizzle. There’s only two different kinds of payoff in that situation. One, if my idea was a big success, and two, if it was a huge failure. Figuring out why something failed is almost a beneficial to me, as having it be a success.

Your post made me think of a post I once read about making things popular online. It said that the only way to make something popular on the web is do something your passionate about, then repeat. If your work is good, people will come, and then come back for more.

I don’t know if that’s totally true. With discovery becoming more and more important, things like SEO & SEM, share optimization, and just good ‘ol fashioned person to person outreach are needed to even be found in the hay stack, but it’s an interesting idea anyway.

Well, I wish you luck… I’ll be watching.
