I received this poignant letter last night from Nate Anderson, Executive Director of Ear Candy, on the passing a Les Paul.
Ear Candy is phenomenal nonprofit in Phoenix that supplies musical instruments and instruction to high school students who don’t have the benefit of a music program. Nate’s mission is one we endorse wholeheartedly. And you can see why, given his passion for music and the positive impact it has on kids. I wanted to share his thoughts with you.
Dear Music Advocates,
We here at Ear Candy are grieving. One of music’s biggest and best has left us today, and it truly hurts.
Les Paul inspired us, entertained us and, most of all, fathered us into an appreciation of good rock music. The work he did in every aspect of his music career led musicians within his, and future, generations to the true rock and roll we love today.
From the creation of the ultimate guitar, to his in-studio techniques, to his awesome performance style, Les Paul contributed more than most people are aware. His ability to capture such a great understanding of music was second only to the way he gave so much back to music.
He leaves big shoes to fill, but that is why we do what we do here at Ear Candy. Every day, we work to provide kids access to music education while creating a culture of learning that might just lead to the next Les Paul.
Our musical brother, you will be missed!!!
Remembering Les,
