Reverse Graffiti: Great Example of Environmental Advertising

2513913590103830173S600x600Q85Cleaning grime has become an art form. Reverse graffiti artist Paul “Moose” Curtis has made a name for himself with stencils, a pressure washer, and a mission to turn dirty public walls into something to behold. Clorox’ green cleaning products Green Works is an obvious client of this street artist, who gives environmental advertising a whole new aesthetic.

It’s a good topic for your (great) blog. I’ve written about the pitfalls of Domino’s Pizza’s clean/green graffiti campaign on my blog http://www.thehuntingdynasty.com/2009/07/dominos-clean-graffiti-ads-show-dirty-thinking/

Contains an interesting response from the founder of GreenGraffiti too.

That was a great note Bowes left you. It’s amazing the impact we can all have with social media. I do agree with your point about Dominos. Sometimes the tactic overshadows the execution. Come on people, let’s think a little.

Thanks for your comment, and for introducing me to your blog. I’ll definitely follow. Have a great week.

  3. I came across that video a few weeks ago and loved it, Park. When the “Green Works” affiliation became clear, I have to say I was bummed. Works of reverse graffiti and the pursuit of more sustainable living in general can all be demonstrated without a brand co-opting the experience. Could Green Works have just sponsored the event/video without Curtis having to add their logo to the walls he was “painting?” I think there may need to be a new level of cause marketing subtlety for brands wanting to sponsor “green” events…

“Cause marketing subtlety.” Interesting concept. You make a good point that somehow the Green Works logo was a bit in-your-face. It hadn’t occurred to me when I first saw the piece, but now I can feel your pain. It is certainly a fine line all of us marketers walk between delivering an important message and “selling.” Thanks for taking the time to comment.

  9. We have a small office in the city and the electricity bill is insane. Tell you what, we have tried to turn off the all the electric juice sucking machines, but not really see much of the difference in the bills. But, one day our plaza electrician told me that they are changing all the LED light tubes outside the plaza. Those LED lights look the same as the old light tube but after that we don’t think we see the electrician for months until people complaint about other problems. We tried using the LED light tubes and we are so damn glad we did. We already have the electric bill saving to pay off the LED lights that we got. Awesome product!!!

  10. We have created over 500 Reverse Graffiti campaigns across europe and the most successful advertising campaigns are also the most beautiful artistic creations too. We have also created nearly a hundred 3d street art pictures for advertising too and again they make a great combination of art and commerce.
